People had been waiting a long time for the Rescuer God had promised (Isaiah 7:14; 9:6-7). Through people like Zechariah, Elizabeth, John and Simeon (Luke 1-2) and events like Jesus’ family’s escape to Egypt and their return to Nazareth (Matthew 2), God made it clear that baby Jesus was the Rescuer.
