Super Bowl of Preaching 2025

Crossroads’ Super Bowl of Preaching is full of tailgating, hysterical commercials, two smack-talking teams going head-to-head, a halftime show, and some actual Biblical teaching that might change your life.

  • 00:00:13
    - Welcome to the 23rd Annual Super Bowl of Preaching.
  • 00:00:17
Hey, thank you so much for tuning in.
  • 00:00:19
We're so glad that you are here for all of this craziness.
  • 00:00:22
Two things for you right off the bat.
  • 00:00:24
One, yes, this is a church, and two, no,
  • 00:00:26
there is nothing we can do to keep
  • 00:00:28
the Chiefs from a three-peat this year.
  • 00:00:29
We're going to have to keep that up to the referees.
  • 00:00:32
Now, we are a church made up of normal people
  • 00:00:35
all over the globe who just want more of God in their lives.
  • 00:00:38
Some of us meet in church buildings like this one,
  • 00:00:41
while thousands of others meet online and in person
  • 00:00:43
    in homes, dorms, breweries,
  • 00:00:45
shout out to our watch parties, and even in prisons.
  • 00:00:48
Now my name is Andy Ryder and I get to lead
  • 00:00:50
    our Crossroads Anywhere community
  • 00:00:51
of people meeting all over the globe.
  • 00:00:53
If you don't know what you just signed up for,
  • 00:00:55
maybe a friend invited you or sent you the link,
  • 00:00:58
we're so sorry and I hope that you're still friends
  • 00:01:00
    after all this is over.
  • 00:01:01
Seriously though, this is a church service,
  • 00:01:03
but it will likely be different than
  • 00:01:05
    any that you've experienced before,
  • 00:01:06
and I hope that that's a great thing.
  • 00:01:08
This is a crazy thing that we've been doing for 23 years,
  • 00:01:11
to take what has historically been
  • 00:01:13
the least attended Sunday of the entire calendar year,
  • 00:01:16
and actually flip the script to make it
  • 00:01:18
    one of our most attended
  • 00:01:20
and most engaging weekends of the year.
  • 00:01:21
It's an experience that we hope that you'll love,
  • 00:01:24
and might actually help reframe church as something
  • 00:01:27
that can be both fun and meaningful to your actual life.
  • 00:01:30
I remember the first time that I came
  • 00:01:32
    to Super Bowl of Preaching.
  • 00:01:33
I did not know what I was getting myself into,
  • 00:01:35
and I found myself laughing and crying
  • 00:01:37
within about 15 minutes of each other.
  • 00:01:39
It changed the way that I see God and the church.
  • 00:01:42
Now, before I go any further, I have to do this,
  • 00:01:44
note for the lawyers, I am legally obligated
  • 00:01:47
to tell you that this is not the actual Super Bowl,
  • 00:01:50
and that we Crossroads in no way, shape, or form
  • 00:01:52
have anything to do with the real Super Bowl.
  • 00:01:54
Taylor and Travis aren't here. That's not us.
  • 00:01:56
So NFL please, please don't come after us.
  • 00:01:59
And for you, if you can't tell the difference
  • 00:02:01
between a weird church service and the actual Super Bowl,
  • 00:02:04
you likely know less about sports
  • 00:02:05
than our Super Bowl referee, Matt Castleman.
  • 00:02:08
    Now that's enough from me.
  • 00:02:10
We're going to get this thing started
  • 00:02:11
by kicking it over to our pregame studio panel
  • 00:02:14
featuring analysts Hannah Driskill, Joel Firebaugh
  • 00:02:17
and actual Bengals kicker Evan McPherson
  • 00:02:19
to get us ready for the party that is to come.
  • 00:02:28
    - Hello and welcome, everyone,
  • 00:02:30
to the 23rd Annual Super Bowl of Preaching.
  • 00:02:34
I'm here today alongside our new rules analyst
  • 00:02:37
Joel Firebaugh and Bengals kicker Evan McPherson.
  • 00:02:40
Evan, tell us how you feeling about this year's matchup?
  • 00:02:43
    - You know, I'm really excited about it, Hannah.
  • 00:02:45
You can really feel the energy in the building.
  • 00:02:47
I think it's going to be a special one.
  • 00:02:48
    - Absolutely it is.
  • 00:02:50
Joel, it's your first year as our rules analyst.
  • 00:02:53
    What are you expecting?
  • 00:02:54
    - It's my first year as an analyst,
  • 00:02:56
but I've kicked in multiple Super Bowls of Preaching,
  • 00:02:59
and I have seen firsthand how bad the rules need analyzed.
  • 00:03:03
And specifically how bad this excuse of a ref is.
  • 00:03:05
So I'm pretty excited to call him out.
  • 00:03:07
    - Joel's right. It's the worst officiating I've ever seen,
  • 00:03:09
and I've played in a lot of games.
  • 00:03:11
    - Specifically, you've played against the Chiefs, so...
  • 00:03:13
    - Okay. Too soon, too soon.
  • 00:03:15
Evan, you've played in the actual Super Bowl.
  • 00:03:19
Tell us, how did you did you prepare?
  • 00:03:20
    - Yeah. You know, it all starts with, like,
  • 00:03:22
sleeping right, eating right, good recovery routine,
  • 00:03:25
and obviously waking up at 4 a.m. every morning
  • 00:03:27
    and doing my workouts.
  • 00:03:28
    - 100%, my man. My prep looks pretty similar.
  • 00:03:31
I've also kicked in a Super Bowl
  • 00:03:35
    - Of Preaching. - It's the same, the same thing.
  • 00:03:37
    Very similar regimens.
  • 00:03:39
Ev, dog, I think we would agree on this one.
  • 00:03:42
    - This is crazy. This isn't a real sport.
  • 00:03:44
    I play a real sport.
  • 00:03:46
    - Hey, I'm just going to have to stop you right there. Evan.
  • 00:03:49
    - Looks like former NFL quarterback
  • 00:03:51
and ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky is joining us.
  • 00:03:54
Dan, I hear you disagree with Evan.
  • 00:03:56
    - All right. Yeah. Thanks, Hannah.
  • 00:03:58
I just wanted to make it very clear,
  • 00:04:00
like, not a real sport, Evan?
  • 00:04:02
I mean, this is the epitome of sports.
  • 00:04:04
I mean, every kid grows up dreaming about
  • 00:04:07
one day being able to play in the Super Bowl of Preaching.
  • 00:04:10
Okay? This is the top of the mountain.
  • 00:04:13
    And if we're being honest,
  • 00:04:15
how much do you actually really know about sports?
  • 00:04:18
I mean, you are just a kicker.
  • 00:04:20
    - Dan Orlovsky, here's the deal,
  • 00:04:23
do not disrespect kickers like Evan and I. All right?
  • 00:04:28
We have played in Super Bowls. Respect it.
  • 00:04:31
    - All right, all right. Take a deep breath.
  • 00:04:33
Pump the brakes here a little bit, okay, Joel.
  • 00:04:35
Not only were you just a kicker. No offense, Evan.
  • 00:04:39
    - None taken.
  • 00:04:40
    - But you were so bad at it,
  • 00:04:41
your performance was so horrible last year,
  • 00:04:44
they got rid of the entire position.
  • 00:04:45
It was such a pathetic performance, dude.
  • 00:04:48
    - Dan, here's the deal. Do you want to fight Evan and I?
  • 00:04:52
Okay, we are both absolutely at ends right now.
  • 00:04:55
    We are heated.
  • 00:04:56
Do you want to take us both on?
  • 00:04:58
In fact, I think -- I think Hannah is equally as mad.
  • 00:05:00
You have got an army coming against you, Dan. All right.
  • 00:05:04
    - Okay. It's getting a little too spicy in here,
  • 00:05:07
so I'm gonna send us down to
  • 00:05:09
our Super Bowl of Preaching edition of Hot Ones
  • 00:05:12
to get the inside scoop with our teachers.
  • 00:05:14
It's hosted by our referee, Matt.
  • 00:05:17
    Matt, take it away.
  • 00:05:26
    - Thanks, Hannah. Hello, sports and wings fans.
  • 00:05:29
You are here at our first ever Crossroads
  • 00:05:31
Super Bowl of Preaching Hot Ones edition
  • 00:05:34
with hot wings and an even hotter referee.
  • 00:05:37
We've got our two teams here that are going
  • 00:05:39
to go head to head with some spicy wings.
  • 00:05:41
We've got the Raging Sandwiches, Kyle and Ali,
  • 00:05:45
and we've got the Fighting Camels, Brian Tome, Chuck Mingo.
  • 00:05:48
You're all feeling okay about this because we know,
  • 00:05:52
Ali, Chuck, you don't handle the heat.
  • 00:05:55
We've got some different sauces set aside for you.
  • 00:05:57
Without further ado, let the games begin. [whistle]
  • 00:06:04
    All right. Dig in.
  • 00:06:08
What is your favorite Super Bowl of Preaching memory?
  • 00:06:11
    - Winning.
  • 00:06:13
    - Wow.
  • 00:06:14
    - When was that? - The year --
  • 00:06:16
    - Oh, when you were on my team.
  • 00:06:17
I forgot. When you were my team, yeah.
  • 00:06:19
    - Definitely the year
  • 00:06:20
the Bengals were actually in the Super Bowl.
  • 00:06:22
    - Yeah. - Yes. Yeah.
  • 00:06:24
    - That was amazing. - For sure.
  • 00:06:25
    - That was fantastic. - For sure.
  • 00:06:27
    - My favorite was it was one of the early years we did it.
  • 00:06:30
It was a passage in Joshua and I had not --
  • 00:06:34
I've read it before, I prepared my little talk,
  • 00:06:36
but I never noticed that there was
  • 00:06:39
a place in it called Shittim.
  • 00:06:40
I read it and said Shittim,
  • 00:06:42
and they threw a flag on me and announces that.
  • 00:06:44
And I was like, I never saw it before.
  • 00:06:46
It was like one of those, like, just junior high moments.
  • 00:06:49
You weren't -- you never planned and was actually in the Bible.
  • 00:06:51
    - That's right, that's right.
  • 00:06:56
    - We're moving up in scale.
  • 00:07:02
    - Oh, it just got back there. Just got back there.
  • 00:07:04
Did you get that one? - A little bit of heat, yeah.
  • 00:07:06
    - Did you get that one, that just got back there.
  • 00:07:08
    - That's two.
  • 00:07:10
    - It was okay up here. I swallowed,
  • 00:07:12
it hit the back of my throat like, whoo.
  • 00:07:14
I'm gonna be okay on this one.
  • 00:07:16
    - Would you rather live the rest of your life
  • 00:07:19
    with silent, uncontrollable gas
  • 00:07:22
    or loud, uncontrollable sneezing?
  • 00:07:25
    - I'm gonna go sneezing. Smell really repels people.
  • 00:07:29
That explains a lot about Brian's life. [laughter]
  • 00:07:33
    - Oh, he's silent, uncontrollable gas, no question,
  • 00:07:37
because who doesn't like the smell of their own farts?
  • 00:07:39
And no one knows where it's coming from.
  • 00:07:41
    - The best moment is going to be
  • 00:07:43
in Super Bowl of Preaching at some point, you guys.
  • 00:07:45
    - That's right.
  • 00:07:46
You know it, Brian will be sitting on the bench.
  • 00:07:48
One of us will be teaching,
  • 00:07:49
and he's just going to do a little leg lift.
  • 00:07:51
Just write it. Just write it.
  • 00:07:54
    [indiscernible crosstalk]
  • 00:07:56
    - It sounds like someone's cell phone vibrating.
  • 00:07:59
    - Oh, gosh. Okay.
  • 00:08:03
    - Oh, look at you.
  • 00:08:04
    - I'm disgusted with you guys. - She's appalled.
  • 00:08:08
    - Yeah. Where's the other women when you need them?
  • 00:08:26
    - Hot, woo!
  • 00:08:28
    - Oh, wow. - Okay.
  • 00:08:31
    That's a little. Yeah. - Wow.
  • 00:08:32
    - That's a little hot.
  • 00:08:34
    - It's like fumes.
  • 00:08:36
You feel the fumes going through
  • 00:08:38
the pores in the roof of your mouth.
  • 00:08:41
    - Oh, I can feel the sweat starting.
  • 00:08:44
    - I didn't like it.
  • 00:08:45
    - You guys are weenies.
  • 00:08:47
I can't believe you just said, "Oh, just give me ketchup."
  • 00:08:50
    - You're starting to get angry.
  • 00:08:51
Just, you know, it's just --
  • 00:08:53
    - That one hurts. That hurts.
  • 00:08:54
    - Yeah, it gets worse.
  • 00:08:56
    - It does. It doesn't get better.
  • 00:08:58
    - It's getting worse. - Uh-huh.
  • 00:09:02
    - Oh my gosh. - Keep going.
  • 00:09:03
    - Oh my gosh. Do you want --
  • 00:09:05
You know there's ice cream. You want ice cream?
  • 00:09:07
    - I've got a challenge.
  • 00:09:09
I will award a point in the game, Brian and Kyle,
  • 00:09:15
if you load up your last wing with Da Bomb,
  • 00:09:21
and Alli and Chuck, they have to do one drop.
  • 00:09:23
    - No, I don't want to do that.
  • 00:09:25
    - We don't have to do it. I'll do a drop.
  • 00:09:26
    - Then you should definitely do it.
  • 00:09:28
    You should definitely do it.
  • 00:09:29
    - You should definitely. - Exactly.
  • 00:09:38
    - Doing it. Go.
  • 00:09:46
    - That was terrible.
  • 00:09:49
    - Ugh, it's hot. Right? It's like.
  • 00:09:53
It's like going around my face.
  • 00:09:55
    I can't feel my lips.
  • 00:09:58
    I can't remember my name.
  • 00:10:00
    That was a lot.
  • 00:10:01
    - That was really stupid.
  • 00:10:03
    - Wow. - Mhm.
  • 00:10:06
    - Oh my gosh! In my eye.
  • 00:10:09
    - Oh, no. Oh, no! Oh, no.
  • 00:10:12
    - Oh! That's hot.
  • 00:10:18
    - All right. Tell the viewers
  • 00:10:20
what makes you superior to your opponents.
  • 00:10:23
    - Look. I got the reps,
  • 00:10:27
and I invented the Super Bowl of Preaching.
  • 00:10:29
    - You know, the Wright brothers invented flight,
  • 00:10:31
but it was really Boeing and some others
  • 00:10:33
    who perfected the airplane.
  • 00:10:35
And I feel like that's what I bring to the table. [laughter]
  • 00:10:42
    - I'm the people's pastor.
  • 00:10:46
    - Yeah, I can't even argue with that.
  • 00:10:49
I'm like, no, you're right. You absolutely right.
  • 00:10:52
    - I think it's become obvious
  • 00:10:54
    just watching this little exercise
  • 00:10:57
what makes me different than these three yahoos,
  • 00:11:00
and you're definitely going to see it in the game.
  • 00:11:02
    - I thought we -- I thought we were on the same team.
  • 00:11:04
    - Oh, wait. We're on the same team.
  • 00:11:07
    - I feel like you're obviously not.
  • 00:11:09
You're a team of one. You're a team of one.
  • 00:11:12
I thought we were together. - We are. We are.
  • 00:11:14
    - Okay, good. Yeah. Okay. Cool.
  • 00:11:17
    Just checking.
  • 00:11:19
    - Uh, we're heading back to you in the studio.
  • 00:11:24
    - Woo! I can feel the heat from those wings
  • 00:11:26
radiating right into this live broadcast.
  • 00:11:28
    Now, speaking of live,
  • 00:11:30
Hannah is down on the field right now
  • 00:11:31
    getting ready for her segment.
  • 00:11:32
Dan, any final thoughts from you?
  • 00:11:35
    - I am so in awe of these competitors watching them.
  • 00:11:38
It is the -- it's the best of the best
  • 00:11:41
and I'm so excited and this, this is my Super Bowl.
  • 00:11:45
    - Makes sense Dan, since you didn't play in one.
  • 00:11:47
    - Better than losing one, bud.
  • 00:11:48
    - Okay, okay. Somehow I have to be the professional here,
  • 00:11:51
    and that's all right. Okay.
  • 00:11:52
    It's that time, everybody.
  • 00:11:54
Time to get down to Hannah on the field.
  • 00:11:56
It's going to be a great day.
  • 00:11:57
    Everyone, buckle up for
  • 00:11:59
the 23rd annual Super Bowl of Preaching.
  • 00:12:04
    - Well hey everybody, great to have you with us.
  • 00:12:06
    Greg Mcelfresh
  • 00:12:07
alongside my esteemed colleague Hannah Driskill.
  • 00:12:10
Hannah, I don't know about you, but I am feeling twenty--
  • 00:12:12
    - Please stop.
  • 00:12:13
We're going to get so much Taylor Swift today, am I right?
  • 00:12:16
I mean, listen, I'm telling you what,
  • 00:12:18
it's just absolutely amazing energy in this place.
  • 00:12:21
We've got the Raging Camels, the Fighting --
  • 00:12:24
No, the Raging Sandwiches, the Fighting Camels.
  • 00:12:27
    And we're so excited.
  • 00:12:28
We could not be more pumped for this game.
  • 00:12:30
    - Hey, what do you say we head on down to the field
  • 00:12:32
    for today's starting lineups?
  • 00:12:35
    - And now your 2025 Super Bowl of Preaching teams.
  • 00:12:42
First up, the Fighting Camels. [cheers]
  • 00:12:50
    - We have never seen an offensive juggernaut like this
  • 00:12:53
in the history of the Super Bowl of Preaching.
  • 00:12:55
Fighting Camels are nearly unstoppable in all three phases,
  • 00:12:58
but especially when they got the Bible in their hand.
  • 00:13:01
    - Oh my gosh, Greg, I'm telling you,
  • 00:13:03
this team is explosive on offense.
  • 00:13:06
I mean, 18.7 points per game.
  • 00:13:09
That's the most in franchise history.
  • 00:13:11
    They can score at will.
  • 00:13:12
They've known for their trick plays, their play calling,
  • 00:13:14
    their above average athleticism,
  • 00:13:16
especially for men who are their age.
  • 00:13:19
    Their age.
  • 00:13:23
    - Up next, their opponents, the Raging Sandwiches.
  • 00:13:30
    - Well, I gotta tell you, if this team is known
  • 00:13:32
for one thing, it's that they are a defensive powerhouse.
  • 00:13:36
Offense is nothing to be overlooked, but man,
  • 00:13:38
they take the old adage defense wins championships
  • 00:13:41
    to the next level.
  • 00:13:42
    - That's right. Only allowing 12.3 points per game.
  • 00:13:45
They lead all teams in defensive scoring.
  • 00:13:48
If anything that can match that offense
  • 00:13:50
that's coming from the Camels, it's going to be the Sandwiches.
  • 00:13:53
And that's a sentence that, hey, you don't hear every day.
  • 00:13:56
But it's strength versus strength today, Greg.
  • 00:13:58
And I'm telling you, something's got to give.
  • 00:14:07
    - All right, well, the players are on the field
  • 00:14:10
displaying some type of athleticism, I suppose.
  • 00:14:14
And I don't know how in the world
  • 00:14:16
are we going to rein these guys in?
  • 00:14:18
    - This year we've got our own Joel Firebaugh here
  • 00:14:21
to give us the rules because we're going to need them.
  • 00:14:24
    - Yeah, you said it.
  • 00:14:25
We are going to need the rules this year big time.
  • 00:14:27
The referee, just like the NFL has,
  • 00:14:30
    believes he's the main character
  • 00:14:32
and so I'm here to really keep him in check.
  • 00:14:34
And unlike the NFL, this is not scripted.
  • 00:14:36
We actually have points given out
  • 00:14:38
    with different winners each service.
  • 00:14:39
And so let's get into the rules.
  • 00:14:41
Six points for a compelling message.
  • 00:14:43
Three points for a good use of a random object.
  • 00:14:47
One point if they get the extra point
  • 00:14:48
and then up to the referee's discretion,
  • 00:14:50
a penalty will cost each team three points.
  • 00:14:52
Let's keep it clean out there. - I've seen a lot of these.
  • 00:14:55
I think a lot is going to come down to the random objects.
  • 00:14:57
    - That's right, and I'm excited about the random object,
  • 00:15:00
but also to see which angle the teachers choose to take.
  • 00:15:03
They're going to be looking at the highlights
  • 00:15:05
from the NFL season this year
  • 00:15:07
and adding their own flair to it. Let's get into it.
  • 00:15:09
    - All right. Well, we met the players.
  • 00:15:11
    We heard the rules.
  • 00:15:12
An NFL kickoff change this year.
  • 00:15:14
The same is true on our turf.
  • 00:15:16
We're going to hear the new change
  • 00:15:17
    from our Dayton Community Pastor
  • 00:15:19
and today's referee, Matt Castleman. [cheers]
  • 00:15:24
    - Hello, Crossroads, hello, Dayton, hello, Broadway.
  • 00:15:29
Anyway, it's good to be back.
  • 00:15:31
Some of you might be a little surprised
  • 00:15:33
that I'm back again after last year's, uh, performance.
  • 00:15:38
And every year prior to that.
  • 00:15:39
But, but I want to assure you,
  • 00:15:40
    I've actually studied the game.
  • 00:15:42
I'm going to call a good, clean, fair game
  • 00:15:45
    without any hidden bias. Okay?
  • 00:15:47
Now, regarding the rules of the game, it sounds like
  • 00:15:50
you all have already been Chiefed, uh briefed.
  • 00:15:54
    [laughter] - Wait, wait, wait.
  • 00:15:55
    - What? What? - You have a Chief's shirt on!
  • 00:15:58
    - Oh, no, I -- I just -- I just love
  • 00:16:01
KC and the Sunshine Band. Listen.
  • 00:16:04
Okay, there are legitimate new rules in the NFL
  • 00:16:07
that we're going to do our best to hold by with the kickoff.
  • 00:16:10
And so I'm going to do my best to explain
  • 00:16:11
what they look like. I've drawn this graph.
  • 00:16:13
Now there's one team that's going to start
  • 00:16:15
behind home base or end zone.
  • 00:16:17
And then the other team is center stage.
  • 00:16:19
Now you do have a box that you have to
  • 00:16:21
be able to receive the ball in.
  • 00:16:23
But if you don't, I guess that's okay
  • 00:16:25
because the other team will have a chance to pull --
  • 00:16:28
I'll tell you what. This is way too confusing.
  • 00:16:30
I'm just going to give this to the person
  • 00:16:32
I'm going to help win anyway.
  • 00:16:33
    - Oh, okay. Great. Yeah.
  • 00:16:36
    - All right. Fighting Camels, you get to pick
  • 00:16:38
the random prop for the Raging Sandwiches.
  • 00:16:43
    - Okay, perfect.
  • 00:16:45
Kyle, your random prop is Preparation H.
  • 00:16:49
    [laughter]
  • 00:16:53
You're going to have a good quarter on the hole.
  • 00:16:56
    - Beautiful. [whistle]
  • 00:16:59
Are we having fun so far today? [cheers]
  • 00:17:02
    That's right.
  • 00:17:03
Hey, let's pray before we jump into these messages.
  • 00:17:06
God, thank you so much for the ability to laugh and have fun.
  • 00:17:11
I'm asking that today every single person in here
  • 00:17:13
would get more joy in their lives
  • 00:17:15
and get pushed closer to You. Amen.
  • 00:17:19
Well, in my opinion, the biggest lesson
  • 00:17:22
from the NFL this year taps into words
  • 00:17:25
that Jesus spoke in Matthew 25 when He said this, he said:
  • 00:17:35
In other words Jesus says, "Because you've been faithful,
  • 00:17:38
I'm going to give you My favor.
  • 00:17:40
And that's the lesson from the NFL
  • 00:17:42
that God's favor follows the faithful always.
  • 00:17:47
Speaking of favor, it seems like the Chiefs
  • 00:17:49
have a little bit of favor in their corner, right?
  • 00:17:52
    I mean, it does.
  • 00:17:53
I saw this headline made me laugh earlier on ESPN.
  • 00:17:57
Patrick Mahomes disagrees Chiefs are getting favorable calls.
  • 00:18:02
Is that -- is that right, Patrick?
  • 00:18:05
    Is that what you think?
  • 00:18:07
Now, I think we should all
  • 00:18:08
be thankful for the Chiefs right now.
  • 00:18:10
They're doing a great public service for our nation
  • 00:18:12
that's deeply divided in every way:
  • 00:18:14
    political lines, religious lines.
  • 00:18:16
Right now, the glue holding our nation together
  • 00:18:19
is our collective hatred of the Chiefs. [laughter]
  • 00:18:23
I mean, it's beautiful, producing unity.
  • 00:18:26
    It's great. Amazing.
  • 00:18:28
Now, when they won their first Super Bowl in 2019,
  • 00:18:32
all of us who hate the Chiefs now,
  • 00:18:34
we loved them. We were so excited.
  • 00:18:36
We were like Brian when he sees a deer through his scope,
  • 00:18:39
he sees old Bambi. He's like, yes!
  • 00:18:41
Which, if you pay attention to his hunting stories,
  • 00:18:43
doesn't sound like it happens very often, sadly.
  • 00:18:47
A win and the Chiefs will be
  • 00:18:49
the first ever three-peat Super Bowl champion,
  • 00:18:51
which I think means they're the greatest team of all time.
  • 00:18:53
And my question is, how come, if that happens,
  • 00:18:57
all of us who cheered them to the top
  • 00:19:00
will absolutely hate them for getting there?
  • 00:19:03
    It's odd. Right?
  • 00:19:04
Now, I think the reason is because you and I,
  • 00:19:06
deep inside of us, we have this thing
  • 00:19:08
that makes us deeply suspicious whenever we see
  • 00:19:11
what looks like sustained success, aka favor.
  • 00:19:15
We assume there's something fishy going on.
  • 00:19:17
That's what we say about the Chiefs,
  • 00:19:19
"It's the Kansas City Cheats, not the Chiefs,
  • 00:19:21
and it's the refs. That's why.
  • 00:19:23
Roger Goodell wants him to get ahead."
  • 00:19:25
That's what we say about them.
  • 00:19:26
It doesn't just apply to the Chiefs by the way.
  • 00:19:28
    Anybody or anything that's successful
  • 00:19:31
    we take this stance with.
  • 00:19:32
We hear it all the time at Crossroads, all the time.
  • 00:19:36
Not new at all, but it did explode last year.
  • 00:19:41
Went to a whole entirely different level.
  • 00:19:43
And it's this accusation that we're just about to show.
  • 00:19:46
Have you ever heard that? "They're just about the show."
  • 00:19:48
Which, if you're brand new today, one, welcome.
  • 00:19:51
    Pumped you're here.
  • 00:19:52
Number two, want to be very, very clear on this point.
  • 00:19:55
    Please, please, please hear me.
  • 00:19:57
Yes, we're about to show today.
  • 00:19:59
Yes, of course. We hope it's awesome.
  • 00:20:03
But we're not just about the show.
  • 00:20:04
    We're about you experiencing Jesus.
  • 00:20:07
    We're about you meeting Him.
  • 00:20:09
We're about every chain in your life breaking,
  • 00:20:11
and you experiencing the life changing power
  • 00:20:13
that only comes through His Word.
  • 00:20:15
    That's what we're about.
  • 00:20:16
It's why we do the big dumb show.
  • 00:20:18
It's actually why actually why we started Crossroads
  • 00:20:21
29 years ago as a place where
  • 00:20:23
it doesn't matter what you believe,
  • 00:20:25
it doesn't matter if you've given up on church.
  • 00:20:27
If you're interested in what God can do in your life,
  • 00:20:30
    that's why we're here.
  • 00:20:31
And we started this thing, the Super Bowl of Preaching
  • 00:20:33
on the weekend that was the least attended
  • 00:20:36
    church weekend of the year.
  • 00:20:37
And we flipped it on its head
  • 00:20:38
and we made it into this thing
  • 00:20:40
that's now this giant party that connects
  • 00:20:41
literally tens of thousands of people to Jesus.
  • 00:20:44
    It's absolutely incredible.
  • 00:20:46
And for that, do you know what we get?
  • 00:20:49
    Hated. Absolutely hated.
  • 00:20:53
Like I said, it exploded last year thanks to
  • 00:20:56
one online article that accused us of kicking a Bible.
  • 00:21:01
It went to a totally different level.
  • 00:21:03
We got thousands of emails and complaints, texts,
  • 00:21:05
everything from people all over the country
  • 00:21:07
just telling us how much they hate us, how bad we are.
  • 00:21:10
It reached such a bad level that one of us up here
  • 00:21:13
actually had to have private security
  • 00:21:15
for us and our kids for weeks due to a death threat.
  • 00:21:19
    Still, it follows us around.
  • 00:21:20
My kids at school just in the past week
  • 00:21:22
have each had somebody come up to them and say,
  • 00:21:25
"You know, Crossroads is a fake church
  • 00:21:27
because you hate the Bible, you kick the Bible."
  • 00:21:30
Which, just for the record, I just want to be really clear.
  • 00:21:33
This is a book cover, okay?
  • 00:21:34
    And this is foam inside.
  • 00:21:36
It's what's always been in there? It's not a Bible.
  • 00:21:39
    I'm sorry to disappoint you.
  • 00:21:40
Under the surface, you won't find people who hate the Bible.
  • 00:21:43
You'll find people up here who love God's Word
  • 00:21:45
and are trying to shape our lives to it
  • 00:21:47
and convince you to do the exact same thing.
  • 00:21:55
Now, this lie was started by this one website,
  • 00:21:58
    which I'll call highly questionable.
  • 00:22:00
And I won't get into all the details.
  • 00:22:02
That's not the point, but just a couple of reasons.
  • 00:22:04
One, the founder was convicted of embezzlement
  • 00:22:07
and defamation, among many other things.
  • 00:22:10
Not hard information to find, and yet
  • 00:22:13
not a single one of the podcasters and pundits
  • 00:22:17
who read that article ever questioned it,
  • 00:22:20
ever, to this day, have reached out to us to ask the truth.
  • 00:22:24
They just swallowed it whole and repeated the lie.
  • 00:22:27
And if you can't tell, that causes me a lot of irritation.
  • 00:22:32
    And whenever I have irritation,
  • 00:22:34
the first thing I turn to is Preparation H.
  • 00:22:38
It does the job. [cheers & applause]
  • 00:22:40
    Oh my goodness.
  • 00:22:45
    Does the job.
  • 00:22:48
    [whistle] What?
  • 00:22:49
    - You dropped your flag, sir.
  • 00:22:51
    - No, no, no, no. I got a challenge.
  • 00:22:53
    - Oh, yeah, yeah. What's the challenge?
  • 00:22:55
    - Great use of this prop. Great use.
  • 00:22:57
I think when he throws in the crowd that's targeting.
  • 00:23:00
    - Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
  • 00:23:01
That was generosity. That was gifting.
  • 00:23:05
    - Can I get a thumbs up from the person
  • 00:23:06
    who received the Preparation H.
  • 00:23:08
    Oh, it's a child. It's a child.
  • 00:23:11
    - All right. You're gonna wanna --
  • 00:23:14
You're gonna want to save that.
  • 00:23:16
    - Yeah.
  • 00:23:18
    - I don't know how long it lasts,
  • 00:23:19
    but a couple more decades.
  • 00:23:20
    - Challenge is overturned. Keep moving, keep moving.
  • 00:23:22
    - It's going to be great.
  • 00:23:26
I do, if you can't tell,
  • 00:23:27
I find that very, very frustrating.
  • 00:23:30
But to be honest, I don't find it strange
  • 00:23:32
because I have to be honest and say
  • 00:23:34
I do the exact same thing.
  • 00:23:37
That's why I can't judge any of those people.
  • 00:23:39
Whenever I see somebody that's big and successful
  • 00:23:41
doing something that I'm jealous of,
  • 00:23:43
I have the same baseline assumption.
  • 00:23:44
"Man, there's something fishy going on there.
  • 00:23:46
    Must be something weird happening."
  • 00:23:48
And you do the same thing. I know you do.
  • 00:23:51
And the problem is, when we take that posture and attitude,
  • 00:23:54
it stops us from learning the lesson of how
  • 00:23:57
we might attract God's faithfulness in our own lives.
  • 00:24:00
And the truth is, good news, you can.
  • 00:24:03
It's possible to woo God's faithfulness to you.
  • 00:24:06
He's attracted to something called faithfulness,
  • 00:24:09
which is just showing up and doing the same small thing.
  • 00:24:13
Jesus said, "Be faithful in a little
  • 00:24:14
and I'll put you over much.
  • 00:24:16
Be be really hyper focused on the small, intentional habits
  • 00:24:20
and I will come and I will bless you."
  • 00:24:22
That's called favor in the Bible.
  • 00:24:24
The reason the Chiefs are great is not because
  • 00:24:26
the refs are giving them some unfair advantage.
  • 00:24:28
It's because guys like Travis Kelce,
  • 00:24:30
still at 35 years old, does not take an off day.
  • 00:24:33
You can read articles about this.
  • 00:24:35
It's what makes him strange is the fact that
  • 00:24:37
other veterans take these off days. He doesn't, he doesn't.
  • 00:24:40
    It's called faithfulness.
  • 00:24:42
There's this dumb idea out there that
  • 00:24:44
the way you win in life is by wanting to win.
  • 00:24:47
That's really dumb. Everybody wants to win.
  • 00:24:49
I've never met somebody who says, "You know,
  • 00:24:51
I'm just aiming to be like the Houston Texans,
  • 00:24:54
kind of lose in the first round of the playoffs every year.
  • 00:24:57
I just love Matt Schwab. He's my hero. Just wow."
  • 00:25:00
    No, of course not.
  • 00:25:01
It's not about the goals you have, it's about your habits.
  • 00:25:14
God's favor always follows the faithful,
  • 00:25:16
in His Word says this. Proverbs 3:
  • 00:25:18
let love and faithfulness never leave you.
  • 00:25:20
    Bind them around your neck.
  • 00:25:21
Write them on the tablet of your heart.
  • 00:25:23
Then you will win favor and a good name
  • 00:25:26
in the sight of God and man.
  • 00:25:28
It's not something fishy, it's someone faithful.
  • 00:25:31
And you can do the same things they're doing
  • 00:25:33
to woo God's favor to your life.
  • 00:25:36
Where do you want to win?
  • 00:25:37
Is it at work? Is it in your marriage?
  • 00:25:39
    Is it at school? Dating?
  • 00:25:41
With your kids? For me, that's mine this year.
  • 00:25:43
I want to win with my kids.
  • 00:25:45
I want God's favor in my relationships with them.
  • 00:25:47
And so I'm doing the stupid small thing
  • 00:25:49
of every morning I drive them to school.
  • 00:25:52
I wake up so early, I fight the bus line.
  • 00:25:55
    It's horrible. It's awful.
  • 00:25:56
But I do it because I get 30 uninterrupted minutes
  • 00:25:59
    with them every single morning.
  • 00:26:01
It's a small thing I can do to say,
  • 00:26:03
"God, I'm trying to be faithful.
  • 00:26:05
Would You shower Your favor on me?"
  • 00:26:06
And He does every single time.
  • 00:26:09
    Jesus said, "You've been faithful over little;
  • 00:26:11
    I'll set you over much."
  • 00:26:12
God's promise to you is where you are faithful
  • 00:26:15
    His favor will find you.
  • 00:26:21
    - [whistle] Touchdown, Raging Sandwiches! [cheers]
  • 00:26:29
    - Kyle, you were awarded 2 points from Hot Ones episode,
  • 00:26:31
6 points for a great message,
  • 00:26:33
and 3 points for the excellent use of the prop.
  • 00:26:36
Your extra point trivia question, within 10%,
  • 00:26:41
what percentage of people polled at
  • 00:26:43
the Super Bowl of Preaching are taller than 5'7"?
  • 00:26:47
    - Wow. Well, that's God's perfect height, that is.
  • 00:26:49
    - That's -- - Not many. Not many.
  • 00:26:52
    Gosh. Taller? - Zero?
  • 00:26:54
    - Okay, what's the average height of women?
  • 00:26:56
    What do you think? 5'4".
  • 00:26:58
Okay, so I'm going to go -- I'm going to go 50%.
  • 00:27:02
    - It is 46%. - Yeah, baby.
  • 00:27:04
    - Which means you get the extra point,
  • 00:27:06
resulting in an end of first quarter score
  • 00:27:10
of Raging Sandwiches 12, Fighting Camels 2.
  • 00:27:13
That's the end of the first quarter.
  • 00:27:15
    - All right, there it is, the first quarter.
  • 00:27:17
Great use of the random object. What did you guys see?
  • 00:27:19
    - Amazing use here. We've got a replay.
  • 00:27:21
We see him throwing up this Preparation H,
  • 00:27:24
and hilarious, a kid catches it. We love to see it.
  • 00:27:28
    - This is why replays are so important.
  • 00:27:30
    A challenge flag was thrown.
  • 00:27:31
The ref thought he dropped it.
  • 00:27:32
He handed it back to him.
  • 00:27:34
Still giving Preparation-h to a child in the crowd,
  • 00:27:37
    there was absolutely no penalty.
  • 00:27:38
In fact, he bragged about his height to him.
  • 00:27:40
This ref is an excuse and needs to be investigated.
  • 00:27:43
    - That's right. Kids, that is not toothpaste,
  • 00:27:44
so keep it in the tube.
  • 00:27:46
Hey, we know you don't come for the preaching.
  • 00:27:48
What do you say we head to our first commercial break?
  • 00:27:53
    - Is your family thinking about a rescue dog?
  • 00:27:57
    - We're not taking him home.
  • 00:27:58
    - He's so cute, though.
  • 00:28:00
    - Heck, no.
  • 00:28:01
    Oh, he smells really bad.
  • 00:28:03
    Have you been potty trained?
  • 00:28:05
    - Do you know what kind of dog it is?
  • 00:28:06
    - No. Put it down.
  • 00:28:10
    - Does he come from a family of chewers?
  • 00:28:12
    - Put it down.
  • 00:28:14
    - How do you know what to feed him?
  • 00:28:17
    - All right, Cupcake.
  • 00:28:20
Get you some bacon. There you go.
  • 00:28:22
    - Now, there's a way to find out.
  • 00:28:25
    - What you want? You know what, you wanna play?
  • 00:28:28
Okay. Let's play. Here we go. And catch.
  • 00:28:32
    - Does this breed have any aggressive tendencies?
  • 00:28:35
    - No, the ball's that way! The ball's that way! No, no.
  • 00:28:38
    - What are the chances this dog rips you limb from limb?
  • 00:28:41
    - Help me, please! Please, kids, stop doing your homework!
  • 00:28:45
    - Does he have the strength of ten really angry lumberjacks?
  • 00:28:49
    - No! No!
  • 00:28:51
    - Embark Dog DNA Test,
  • 00:28:53
because if your dog turns out to be a Bigfoot,
  • 00:28:56
you're gonna be in a world of pain.
  • 00:29:03
    - I'll get it.
  • 00:29:08
    - Ah, look at the cute little baby.
  • 00:29:11
    Look at the cute baby.
  • 00:29:13
Look at the cute little baby.
  • 00:29:15
    Too bad they're joking.
  • 00:29:17
Are you fed up with your baby being out of shape?
  • 00:29:19
    - Ew! - So are we!
  • 00:29:22
From your friends at Monster Energy comes InfaSWOLE.
  • 00:29:27
Using all the chemicals you don't know but still love.
  • 00:29:31
Your baby will go from Similac to Simi-jacked.
  • 00:29:35
    We'll get your baby swole!
  • 00:29:37
    Swole! Swole!
  • 00:29:41
Ah! Goochie, goochie, goochie, goochie, goochie, goochie.
  • 00:29:45
    Unstoppable babies; InfaSWOLE!
  • 00:29:54
    - Oh. - Wow.
  • 00:29:55
    - You got a little one at home.
  • 00:29:57
What do you think? Would you use that product?
  • 00:29:59
    - He only needs it more to become more unstoppable.
  • 00:30:01
    He's already there.
  • 00:30:02
We've got the Raging Sandwiches on top,
  • 00:30:04
but it is anybody's game, Greg.
  • 00:30:06
    - Are you getting that in your headset?
  • 00:30:07
    - Oh, gosh. I am. Yeah.
  • 00:30:09
    - Referee's got his mic on.
  • 00:30:11
    - No, no, I'm not going to wear it
  • 00:30:14
    because, mom, it's embarrassing.
  • 00:30:17
Literally no one else is wearing it.
  • 00:30:20
I know you're not their mom, but --
  • 00:30:22
    Fine, fine. I'll wear it.
  • 00:30:23
Yeah, I'll be home for dinner.
  • 00:30:26
Yeah. Fish sticks sound great. Love you too. Bye.
  • 00:30:29
    - What is happening?
  • 00:30:33
    - So stupid. - Oh.
  • 00:30:35
    - Part of concussion protocol.
  • 00:30:36
First time we've seen a ref wearing the Guardian Cap.
  • 00:30:39
    - Yeah, it's been all over the NFL,
  • 00:30:41
but it honestly might help him. We shouldn't be shocked.
  • 00:30:43
    - Safety first, everybody.
  • 00:30:45
Fighting Camels, you'll have the second quarter.
  • 00:30:47
    Please choose their random prop.
  • 00:30:49
    - Oh, gosh.
  • 00:30:51
    - All right, your random prop, Chuck, is a baby doll head.
  • 00:30:55
    Oh, wow. Wow.
  • 00:30:58
    [whistle]
  • 00:31:00
    [music: Rocky Theme Song]
  • 00:31:01
    - All right, who's rooting for the Eagles today, huh?
  • 00:31:05
    [cheers] Yes.
  • 00:31:08
    Man, I love that song.
  • 00:31:09
Every time I hear it, I think about Rocky
  • 00:31:12
    being the perennial underdog.
  • 00:31:14
And yet, that's not the song
  • 00:31:16
that plays before every Eagles game.
  • 00:31:18
It's another one from Rocky called Going the Distance.
  • 00:31:21
And so what I want to do is encourage you
  • 00:31:22
for the next couple of minutes that
  • 00:31:24
you can go the distance with God.
  • 00:31:26
We have more and more folks at Crossroads
  • 00:31:29
that are in our Espanol community.
  • 00:31:31
    And so [speaking Spanish]
  • 00:31:36
You can go the distance with Jesus.
  • 00:31:39
I want to encourage you from this verse
  • 00:31:41
in the book of Job 5:19, which says:
  • 00:31:50
Now this is written to or spoken to Job,
  • 00:31:53
    which was the cosmic underdog.
  • 00:31:55
You want to talk about a life where nothing was going well,
  • 00:31:57
this is a guy who had everything but eventually
  • 00:31:59
found himself in a situation where
  • 00:32:01
he lost all of his children.
  • 00:32:02
    He was losing his health,
  • 00:32:04
and he was in a really difficult place.
  • 00:32:06
And Job had some friends that came around him,
  • 00:32:07
and one of them wanted to encourage him with these words.
  • 00:32:11
Maybe you walked in here today
  • 00:32:12
feeling like life is against you.
  • 00:32:14
Maybe you walked in here feeling discouraged.
  • 00:32:16
Maybe you feel like an underdog.
  • 00:32:18
What I want you to know is that this verse
  • 00:32:20
has promises that will help you go the distance with Jesus.
  • 00:32:23
Now, first, this verse promises troubles.
  • 00:32:26
    It promises troubles.
  • 00:32:27
You know, one of the things that may be a reason
  • 00:32:29
    why you were reluctant
  • 00:32:30
to say yes to this invitation to church.
  • 00:32:32
Or maybe you're not in on the God thing
  • 00:32:35
is because there's pain in your life
  • 00:32:36
    that it doesn't make sense.
  • 00:32:38
How could a good God allow those things to happen?
  • 00:32:40
And I think all of us wrestle with that question
  • 00:32:43
    at some level.
  • 00:32:44
    Now, here's the thing.
  • 00:32:45
This verse tells us why pain is in the world,
  • 00:32:49
and it's because there's evil in the world.
  • 00:32:51
It's because there is a spiritual force
  • 00:32:53
that's coming against you and against me,
  • 00:32:55
that doesn't want our lives to thrive,
  • 00:32:57
that doesn't want you to flourish
  • 00:32:58
and actually wants to bring you down.
  • 00:33:00
And because there's evil in the world,
  • 00:33:02
    everybody suffers, everybody hurts.
  • 00:33:04
And at some point, everybody has wanted to quit.
  • 00:33:07
And maybe some of you, you have quit.
  • 00:33:09
Maybe quitting to you looks like numbing out
  • 00:33:12
and just not feeling the pain
  • 00:33:13
that you feel is so prevalent in your life.
  • 00:33:15
Maybe for you, quitting has looked like
  • 00:33:17
    saying I'm quitting to try.
  • 00:33:18
I'm not going to try to be good.
  • 00:33:19
I'm not going to try to change because it doesn't work for me.
  • 00:33:22
I'm just going to live my life.
  • 00:33:23
I'm just going to -- I'm just going to do me.
  • 00:33:25
    Maybe that's how you're quitting.
  • 00:33:26
Or maybe for you, the quitting is around building walls
  • 00:33:28
because you've been hurt before and you're like,
  • 00:33:30
    "You know what?
  • 00:33:31
I'm never going to let anybody that close to my heart."
  • 00:33:34
Here's what I want to say,
  • 00:33:35
I understand what it feels like to want to quit.
  • 00:33:38
In fact, I have these quitting fantasies in my head.
  • 00:33:42
Does anybody know what I'm talking about?
  • 00:33:43
Where, like you say, "This is the Monday
  • 00:33:45
when I'm going to go into my boss and say,
  • 00:33:47
'Take this job and shove it, '" right?
  • 00:33:50
Like, yeah, my boss is on stage.
  • 00:33:51
    Just -- it's just a fantasy.
  • 00:33:52
    It's just, just a fantasy.
  • 00:33:55
No, but, like, maybe you're in a hard relationship
  • 00:33:57
and you're like, "You know what?
  • 00:33:58
Maybe it'd be better if I just hit the reset button.
  • 00:34:00
Maybe I need to walk away from this marriage.
  • 00:34:02
Maybe I need to walk away from this friendship."
  • 00:34:04
It is easy to fantasize about quitting,
  • 00:34:06
but at some point, all of our quitting rings hollow.
  • 00:34:09
It rings hollow because, you know what,
  • 00:34:11
    you weren't built to quit.
  • 00:34:13
    You weren't built to quit.
  • 00:34:14
You were built to go the distance.
  • 00:34:17
You know, I think one of the biggest storylines
  • 00:34:19
in the NFL is about this amazing player
  • 00:34:22
who's my reason for believing that the Eagles
  • 00:34:24
are going to win this game.
  • 00:34:25
In Saquon Barkley I trust. [applause]
  • 00:34:29
    He's having an amazing season.
  • 00:34:31
Just won Offensive Player of the Year
  • 00:34:34
    and he is an underdog.
  • 00:34:35
This is a guy who thought about quitting football
  • 00:34:37
in high school because he was undersized
  • 00:34:39
and his friends were starting over him.
  • 00:34:41
And this is a guy who never thought
  • 00:34:43
he would be able to make it to the next level.
  • 00:34:45
    But look at this.
  • 00:34:46
This is the best highlight you will see in the NFL this year.
  • 00:34:51
Oh my goodness, jumping over --
  • 00:34:55
Jumping over those people like they are
  • 00:34:57
a bunch of baby heads on the field.
  • 00:34:59
    I mean, just unbelievable because
  • 00:35:03
how else would you use this? I don't know.
  • 00:35:05
It just gets darker. It just gets darker from here.
  • 00:35:07
So I'm just going to use it there. Right?
  • 00:35:10
    Oh, my goodness.
  • 00:35:12
Take the baby head and put it away. That's a good one.
  • 00:35:16
    - Don't throw the baby. - Don't throw the baby.
  • 00:35:20
That baby needs some InfaSWOLE, that's what that baby needs.
  • 00:35:24
But here's the thing about Saquon.
  • 00:35:26
This verse says six troubles, six troubles will come,
  • 00:35:30
but God will rescue you from the seventh.
  • 00:35:32
Guess how many seasons Saquon was with the New York Giants?
  • 00:35:35
    Six seasons.
  • 00:35:36
Are there any Giants fans in the House today?
  • 00:35:38
Yes? The next minute is going to be a little bit painful.
  • 00:35:41
I'm just going to tell you because --
  • 00:35:43
Because Saquon spent six failing struggling seasons
  • 00:35:47
    with the Giants no success,
  • 00:35:49
or at least not the success that he hoped for.
  • 00:35:52
But that means that Saquon Barkley
  • 00:35:53
    is in his seventh season,
  • 00:35:55
and his seventh season is for sure his best season.
  • 00:35:59
And I don't know if you heard that, but that will preach.
  • 00:36:02
That will preach, because in the Bible
  • 00:36:03
the number seven has spiritual significance.
  • 00:36:06
The number seven is God's number of completion.
  • 00:36:08
    It's God's number of overcoming.
  • 00:36:10
It's God's number of you going the distance.
  • 00:36:12
And some of you, you might be ready to quit.
  • 00:36:15
But I want to suggest to you, you might be
  • 00:36:16
around the corner from your seventh season.
  • 00:36:19
It might be your best season.
  • 00:36:20
And don't give up because you can go the distance with God.
  • 00:36:25
    Now, how does this happen?
  • 00:36:27
It doesn't happen on our strength.
  • 00:36:28
It happens in the strength that Jesus provides.
  • 00:36:31
It says He will deliver you.
  • 00:36:33
See, there's physics to Saquon's success,
  • 00:36:35
and it has to do with his core strength.
  • 00:36:37
But I think there's also spiritual physics
  • 00:36:39
he's tapping into when he says things like this.
  • 00:36:42
This is a quote from Saquon Barkley this year. He said:
  • 00:36:54
You know what that is, friends?
  • 00:36:56
    That's faith. That's faith.
  • 00:36:58
And when you let Jesus be your core strength,
  • 00:37:01
when you put your faith in Him,
  • 00:37:04
you too can see the moment of victory coming.
  • 00:37:07
It reminds me of this toy that I used to play with.
  • 00:37:10
    Maybe you remember it.
  • 00:37:11
It was a punching bag and you would punch it or kick it,
  • 00:37:13
but it would always bounce right back
  • 00:37:15
because it was grounded and -- [whistle]
  • 00:37:19
    - Un-preacher like conduct, roughing the referee.
  • 00:37:22
    - Oh, come on.
  • 00:37:24
    - A 100 point penalty
  • 00:37:26
will be assessed at the end of this quarter.
  • 00:37:29
    - 100 points? - 100 points because of tariffs.
  • 00:37:33
    - Tariffs. [laughter]
  • 00:37:36
    - No one really knows what to do with it.
  • 00:37:37
    - I'm not gonna let that faze me.
  • 00:37:39
    I'm gonna bounce back.
  • 00:37:40
I want you to look at the person next to you
  • 00:37:42
and say, "You can bounce back."
  • 00:37:44
I want you to look at the person on the other side of you
  • 00:37:47
and tell them you can bounce back.
  • 00:37:49
See, what happens when you have your faith in Jesus
  • 00:37:52
is even when life kicks you and life punches you,
  • 00:37:55
you can get back up because you have a core strength
  • 00:37:58
that's beyond what the world knows.
  • 00:37:59
And I'm not talking about a positive mindset.
  • 00:38:02
I'm talking about a powerful Savior.
  • 00:38:04
I'm not talking about inner excellence
  • 00:38:06
and tapping into your thought life,
  • 00:38:08
although that's wonderful, but I'm talking about
  • 00:38:10
a God who performs inner transformations.
  • 00:38:12
You can bounce back, you can overcome,
  • 00:38:15
you can be the underdog who wins.
  • 00:38:18
Now, let me tell you why I really do believe
  • 00:38:20
the Eagles are going to win this game today.
  • 00:38:22
It's because Jesus [cheering], that's right, that's right.
  • 00:38:25
It's because Jesus wrote a letter
  • 00:38:27
    to the Church of Philadelphia.
  • 00:38:29
I don't know if you knew that or not. He did.
  • 00:38:31
He didn't write a letter to the Church of Kansas City.
  • 00:38:33
He wrote a letter to the Church of Philadelphia.
  • 00:38:35
Actually, in the Book of Revelation,
  • 00:38:37
there are seven letters of encouragement that Jesus writes.
  • 00:38:40
One of them to an ancient city called Philadelphia.
  • 00:38:42
And this is what it says, and I think
  • 00:38:44
this is encouragement for you and for me. Jesus says:
  • 00:38:52
What if you were right on the precipice
  • 00:38:53
of an open door in your life?
  • 00:38:56
See, quitting is natural. Overcoming is supernatural.
  • 00:39:01
And with Jesus, you can go the distance.
  • 00:39:07
    - [whistle] Touchdown!
  • 00:39:08
    - Come on! - That was freaking great.
  • 00:39:10
    I'm serious, that was great.
  • 00:39:11
    - Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
  • 00:39:16
    - Chuck, you're awarded 2 points from the Hot Ones Challenge.
  • 00:39:19
6 points for an excellent message,
  • 00:39:21
3 points for the great use of the disturbing prop.
  • 00:39:24
    - Really disturbing.
  • 00:39:26
    - However, we did have the 100 point penalty,
  • 00:39:28
but, uh, you know tariffs come, tariffs go.
  • 00:39:31
So we'll get rid of that.
  • 00:39:33
    - All right.
  • 00:39:34
    - So your extra point trivia question,
  • 00:39:37
within 10%, what percentage of people polled
  • 00:39:40
at the Super Bowl of Preaching
  • 00:39:41
think fruit snacks are snacks and not candy.
  • 00:39:45
    - Fruit snacks are snacks and not candy.
  • 00:39:51
    - They think they're snacks.
  • 00:39:53
    - So they think they're snacks.
  • 00:39:54
    - Snacks. Not sugar, not candy.
  • 00:39:57
    - Depends how they interpret
  • 00:39:58
    the fruit question. I don't know, I don't know.
  • 00:40:01
    - 50/50? - It's always a safe bet.
  • 00:40:04
    - All right. - 46-50%.
  • 00:40:08
    - It is 63%.
  • 00:40:10
    - Oh, so close.
  • 00:40:11
    - Just outside. - So close.
  • 00:40:12
    - So sorry. Resulting in an end of first act score
  • 00:40:17
of Raging Sandwiches 12, Fighting Camels 11.
  • 00:40:20
That's the end of the first act.
  • 00:40:22
    - What a half we had there.
  • 00:40:24
I'll tell you what, the people's pastor is going to preach.
  • 00:40:27
    What did you guys see?
  • 00:40:28
    - Absolutely, that was so close?
  • 00:40:29
I mean, we see here, Chuck just doing what he naturally does.
  • 00:40:33
Of course, our ref throws a little flag.
  • 00:40:34
I'm not sure if he knew what was going on,
  • 00:40:36
    and I'm wondering why
  • 00:40:37
he had a change of heart with the tariffs.
  • 00:40:39
    - This is why replay is so important.
  • 00:40:41
Again, this is easy to miss on the field.
  • 00:40:43
It was an incredibly smooth, but we do have all angles.
  • 00:40:46
    - That's right.
  • 00:40:47
    - And again why do we keep having this ref?
  • 00:40:51
    - What is a dollar going to buy? I have no idea.
  • 00:40:54
    - Well hey it's time to get your phone out.
  • 00:40:57
If you're in one of our rooms,
  • 00:40:59
]you want to shoot the QR code to get that app.
  • 00:41:01
We want you to be a part of our halftime show
  • 00:41:04
because it's coming up right on the other side
  • 00:41:06
    of this next commercial break.
  • 00:41:09

    - Before the cheers of the crowd,
  • 00:41:44
before the spotlight, before the championship rings,
  • 00:41:48
    it starts in the grind.
  • 00:41:50
    Early mornings. Extra reps.

    - [TV] To the end zone.
  • 00:42:29
    - Hey, Caleb. What you got to eat around here, man?
  • 00:42:32
    - Sorry, guys. I forgot to hit the grocery.
  • 00:42:34
    We gotta DoorDash.
  • 00:42:35
    - Mcdonald's apple pie would hit right now.
  • 00:42:39
    [futuristic Fx] [doorbell]
  • 00:42:44
    - Thanks. Here you go.
  • 00:42:46
    - Uh, what's this?
  • 00:42:47
    - A fried apple pie from the '90s.
  • 00:42:49
I just used DoorDash to the Future, like I always do.
  • 00:42:51
    - Oh, wait. Dash to the Future.
  • 00:42:53
    - Anyways, I'm just gonna do my usual order,
  • 00:42:56
    cereal from 2070. - 2070?
  • 00:43:00
    - Futuristic cereal. What did you even get?
  • 00:43:03
    Anxiety O's?
  • 00:43:04
    - Yeah, in the future healthcare and food kind of like mix.
  • 00:43:08
    - My turn, my turn.
  • 00:43:10
What about the original Coca Cola from the 1800s?
  • 00:43:13
    - Hold up. Doesn't it have, like, actual cocaine?
  • 00:43:15
[belches] - Uh, I'm not tipping for this dude.
  • 00:43:21
    - I forgot they put toys in these.
  • 00:43:23
[Futuristic Fx, doorbell] - Oh, what now?
  • 00:43:25
    - Who ordered the dino chicken nugget?
  • 00:43:27
    - Oh, me.
  • 00:43:30
    - Oh! - Jesse.
  • 00:43:31
    - You're never gonna believe this one. [doorbell]
  • 00:43:33
Look what I ordered. Abraham Lincoln's last meal.
  • 00:43:36
    - What do you mean, last meal?
  • 00:43:38
    - What?
  • 00:43:39
    - Dash to the Future. When are you hungry for?
  • 00:43:47
    - Crossroads, are you ready to party?
  • 00:43:49
    Let's go. Let's go.
  • 00:43:52
[music: Get Up Offa That Thing, James Brown]
  • 00:44:46
    [music: Respect, Aretha Franklin]
  • 00:45:31
[music: I Had Some Help, Post Malone]
  • 00:46:23
[music: Sweet Child O' Mine, Guns N' Roses]
  • 00:46:36
    [music: Bad Blood, Taylor Swift]
  • 00:47:49
    - We're gonna bring it down a little bit. Sing with me.
  • 00:47:54
[music: Take Me Home, Country Roads, John Denver]
  • 00:48:43
    [music: Beautiful Things, Benson Boone]
  • 00:49:37
    [Music: Unwritten, Natasha Bedingfield]
  • 00:50:48
[music: In the Air Tonight/ They Not Like Us mash up]
  • 00:51:33
    - Yes. I loved that halftime show.
  • 00:51:35
Hey, if you are new to Crossroads
  • 00:51:37
or you've been around for a little while watching
  • 00:51:39
but maybe haven't gotten to know anyone yet,
  • 00:51:40
I'd just love to change that.
  • 00:51:42
We say this a lot around here but,
  • 00:51:43
we are a community, not content.
  • 00:51:46
The whole reason that we exist, that we do all of this,
  • 00:51:48
is not just to create more stuff for you to watch online,
  • 00:51:51
but to do anything that we can
  • 00:51:53
to help you grow in your relationship with God.
  • 00:51:56
We've got loads of ways to do that,
  • 00:51:57
but the simplest place for you to start
  • 00:51:59
is by simply texting Anywhere to 301301.
  • 00:52:03
If you do, myself or one of the people on my team,
  • 00:52:06
friends of mine like Emily, Shaun, Jamie, Sam,
  • 00:52:09
actual people will reach out personally
  • 00:52:11
to see how they can help.
  • 00:52:13
If you haven't already figured this out,
  • 00:52:15
we do things a little differently around here.
  • 00:52:17
We believe that God put us on this earth
  • 00:52:20
to be a blessing to those around us,
  • 00:52:21
and that requires us to move.
  • 00:52:24
We are not a sit and watch church,
  • 00:52:26
we are a go and do church.
  • 00:52:27
And our dream is that God will bring revival
  • 00:52:30
    to everyone in our community,
  • 00:52:32
everyone that we are connected to,
  • 00:52:34
and that actually, specifically, He'll use
  • 00:52:36
churches like ours to help launch
  • 00:52:38
    an awakening across our land.
  • 00:52:40
To that end, just a couple of months ago, we rolled out
  • 00:52:43
a ten year vision for Crossroads
  • 00:52:45
that we believe God has given us.
  • 00:52:46
We called it the 10X Push, and it outlined
  • 00:52:49
how we are aggressively going after certain things
  • 00:52:52
that we believe God wants us to pursue.
  • 00:52:54
    This includes things like expanding
  • 00:52:56
our anti-sex trafficking work in Nepal
  • 00:52:59
to bringing Crossroads services to every prison in America,
  • 00:53:02
to addressing and expanding our student
  • 00:53:04
and kids capabilities, to give as many kids
  • 00:53:06
as possible a source of source of hope
  • 00:53:08
    and exponentially growing our community
  • 00:53:10
so that more and more people have the opportunity
  • 00:53:13
to hear about the love and the grace of Jesus
  • 00:53:15
in a language that they can understand.
  • 00:53:18
Now, many of the people watching right now, like you,
  • 00:53:21
believe in this work so much that
  • 00:53:23
    they actually made financial commitments
  • 00:53:25
for three years above and beyond their regular giving
  • 00:53:29
    to make this stuff happen.
  • 00:53:30
    And you can't understand Crossroads
  • 00:53:32
    without understanding the vision that
  • 00:53:34
we believe God has given us
  • 00:53:35
and what we are not just saying,
  • 00:53:37
but what we are doing to pursue it.
  • 00:53:39
So whether you're just getting to know Crossroads
  • 00:53:41
or you are one of those faithful committers,
  • 00:53:44
I'm just so excited for you
  • 00:53:45
to get our first Push 10X update.
  • 00:53:52
    - You should know what happens here isn't normal.
  • 00:53:54
    - Live with a dream and a hope of the impossible.
  • 00:53:57
    - We choose to go to the moon in this decade
  • 00:53:59
and do the other things, not because they are easy,
  • 00:54:03
    but because they are hard.
  • 00:54:04
    - He is now calling us to not hold back.
  • 00:54:07
    - To bring real change and hope
  • 00:54:09
for life on earth as it is in heaven.
  • 00:54:13
    - It's time to make history.
  • 00:54:16
    - That starts now.
  • 00:54:21
    - In November 2024, God called Crossroads to a moonshot.
  • 00:54:26
He asked us to grow the four territories
  • 00:54:28
He gave us 10X in ten years.
  • 00:54:32
Over 5000 people and families pushed themselves,
  • 00:54:36
    faithfully committing $210 million
  • 00:54:40
above and beyond our regular giving.
  • 00:54:42
Fulfilled commitments are already being used
  • 00:54:45
to run after this bold vision.
  • 00:54:47
In the last two months, our Columbus community
  • 00:54:50
moved into their first Crossroads-owned building,
  • 00:54:53
and our permanent Dayton site is entering
  • 00:54:55
    its final phase of construction
  • 00:54:57
with a goal to open by Easter.
  • 00:55:00
Plans are now underway to expand all four territories
  • 00:55:04
as we pursue revival for our friends
  • 00:55:06
and neighbors who don't know Jesus,
  • 00:55:09
and an awakening in our land.
  • 00:55:19
    [music: Love Bound, The Universals]
  • 00:56:07
    - Ref a Rie; make your own rules, like me.
  • 00:56:16
    - Oh, gosh. Are you okay?
  • 00:56:22
You need to get surgery on your knee.
  • 00:56:24
    - You know, I hate doctors in surgery,
  • 00:56:26
and I'm so busy at work.
  • 00:56:28
    Oh, shoot. I'm running late.
  • 00:56:37
    - Hey. Excuse me, sir, do you have the time?
  • 00:56:42
    - Yeah, it's, uh, 8:20. [muffled yelling]
  • 00:56:48
    - It's all part of the procedure.
  • 00:56:52
Let's make sure we get the right knee this time.
  • 00:56:58
    - All right, folks, let's get him back.
  • 00:57:02
    - to see just -- - Hey!
  • 00:57:05
    What? What is that? Where?
  • 00:57:09
    Oh! Oh! Oh ho ho!
  • 00:57:13
    [music] Nothing is everything. Ooooh!
  • 00:57:21
    - Ha ha ha!
  • 00:57:24
    I knew it was you.
  • 00:57:25
    - How's your knee? Feels brand new.
  • 00:57:27
I love you so much. I love you, too.
  • 00:57:33
    - Oh, don't think I forgot about that root canal you need.
  • 00:57:37
    - What? What?!
  • 00:57:39
    - Stealth Health; life's unexpected. So are we.
  • 00:57:46
    - Well, welcome back. Second half coming right up.
  • 00:57:48
You know, I want to add a little addendum
  • 00:57:50
    to that 10X video.
  • 00:57:51
We said we hope to open Dayton by Easter.
  • 00:57:54
Well, we just got confirmed this week,
  • 00:57:55
Crossroads Dayton Grand Opening Easter 2025, April 20th.
  • 00:58:01
We know Bellbrook is going crazy right now.
  • 00:58:03
If you know anyone, send them to Dayton.
  • 00:58:04
    - Yes, we will soon say welcome home.
  • 00:58:07
Listen, the Raging Sandwiches are on top.
  • 00:58:08
    It is anybody's game.
  • 00:58:09
Let's head back down to the field for the second half.
  • 00:58:13
    - All right. Alli, the third quarter is yours.
  • 00:58:16
    For your random prop
  • 00:58:17
we have a little bit of a surprise for you.
  • 00:58:21
    - Oh, what is this?
  • 00:58:23
    - Yep. This is Pooky the Hedgehog.
  • 00:58:29
Let's see if we can -- - No, no, no, no, don't --
  • 00:58:31
    - Well, I think it's okay.
  • 00:58:32
    - No. - I think she's trained.
  • 00:58:33
    - No, I really don't want you to unzip it.
  • 00:58:35
    - Can you see Pookie? Hi, Pookie.
  • 00:58:38
    - Aw, look at him. He needs InfaSWOLE.
  • 00:58:41
    - Leave Pookie alone, and in the bag.
  • 00:58:43
    - All right. Yep.
  • 00:58:45
Bonus points if you get her out and hold her.
  • 00:58:47
No, I'm just kidding. - No.
  • 00:58:48
    - She'll be right there.
  • 00:58:50
    - That's not going to happen.
  • 00:58:52
Oh my goodness. Okay. There's Pookie.
  • 00:58:54
    [whistle] Okay.
  • 00:58:56
I want today to be the day that you start
  • 00:58:59
being a clutch player in your own life.
  • 00:59:02
And if we're talking clutch players on Super Bowl Sunday,
  • 00:59:04
then we are definitely talking about
  • 00:59:06
    number 15 Patrick Mahomes.
  • 00:59:09
Do we love him? Do we hate him?
  • 00:59:13
Do we love to hate him?
  • 00:59:15
I mean, no matter how you feel about this guy,
  • 00:59:17
there is no doubt he is absolutely clutch.
  • 00:59:21
And if you're a Bengals fan like me,
  • 00:59:24
    it's getting annoying, right?
  • 00:59:27
    He doesn't just win.
  • 00:59:29
I mean, he pulls wins out of thin air
  • 00:59:32
at the least moment you expected
  • 00:59:34
he comes up with the win.
  • 00:59:35
And if you think he's doing that
  • 00:59:37
more than the average quarterback, you would be right.
  • 00:59:40
I'm going to show you what I think is a chart
  • 00:59:42
that shows his most jaw dropping stat.
  • 00:59:45
    Okay, follow me into this.
  • 00:59:47
    In playoff games, so postseason,
  • 00:59:49
    everything on the line,
  • 00:59:50
with a minute or less to play
  • 00:59:52
when he steps on the field for the drive,
  • 00:59:55
    tied or behind.
  • 00:59:56
In other words, everything on the line.
  • 01:00:00
What percent of the time do you think
  • 01:00:02
he's come up with a win in that scenario?
  • 01:00:05
    In that scenario.
  • 01:00:06
Some of you have probably seen this chart
  • 01:00:08
because I already hear it. That's right?
  • 01:00:09
    Mahomes is perfect.
  • 01:00:12
    He's faced it seven times
  • 01:00:13
and he's come up with the win all seven times.
  • 01:00:16
    It's unreal.
  • 01:00:17
Not even the GOAT, not even Tom Brady himself
  • 01:00:20
has that percent of wins when he faces that situation.
  • 01:00:24
    He is absolutely clutch.
  • 01:00:27
55 other quarterbacks and nobody's even close
  • 01:00:30
    since 2001 in the league.
  • 01:00:32
This window of time defines Patrick Mahomes.
  • 01:00:36
It defines his impact as a player.
  • 01:00:38
And I bet it will go down in history
  • 01:00:41
defining his entire career. This guy is clutch.
  • 01:00:45
And it's because he sees the window of opportunity
  • 01:00:48
in front of him, and he steps into it,
  • 01:00:51
and he plays clutch every single time.
  • 01:00:53
    He knows when it's time.
  • 01:00:55
And the good news for us today is there's a God
  • 01:00:58
who wants to help you play like that in your own life.
  • 01:01:01
He wants to make you that kind of player in your own life.
  • 01:01:06
And He's putting a window of opportunity in front of you.
  • 01:01:10
It's not unlike the window that Pookie here can see out of
  • 01:01:16
as the hedgehog is in his pack,
  • 01:01:18
    it's a window of opportunity.
  • 01:01:21
And you can step through it,
  • 01:01:23
but you have to be able to answer the question:
  • 01:01:26
what is it time for? What is it time for?
  • 01:01:28
See, the Bible categorizes time in different ways.
  • 01:01:32
And there's a word called kairos time
  • 01:01:34
that means a season of opportunity,
  • 01:01:37
an open window for God to do His work in your life.
  • 01:01:41
And I think we sense these.
  • 01:01:43
I think we even use this language with each other.
  • 01:01:46
We'll say things like, "Yeah, I kind of know it's time."
  • 01:01:51
And we say that about things, like,
  • 01:01:53
"I kind of know it's time to deal with a thing
  • 01:01:56
that we both know is going on in our marriage."
  • 01:01:59
Or "It's probably time for me to get back to church."
  • 01:02:02
Maybe that's why some of you came this weekend.
  • 01:02:04
It's an easy, easy way back in, and you know it's time.
  • 01:02:09
Maybe it's time to make the move or the change
  • 01:02:12
that you've been you've been wrestling with,
  • 01:02:14
and suddenly you feel like it's time.
  • 01:02:17
If you parent teenagers, like I am,
  • 01:02:19
maybe you sense the open window
  • 01:02:21
where your voice can actually be heard,
  • 01:02:23
and you also know it closes really quickly.
  • 01:02:27
And if your kids are anything like mine,
  • 01:02:29
it usually opens around midnight when you just want to be asleep.
  • 01:02:33
See, God gives us windows like this
  • 01:02:35
    and they do close again.
  • 01:02:38
And these are the moments that will define our life.
  • 01:02:40
These are the moments that either make us a clutch player
  • 01:02:43
that leaves an impact, or not.
  • 01:02:46
And so when you see a window of opportunity,
  • 01:02:48
I want you to remember three things.
  • 01:02:50
Are you ready for this? Step in, play clutch, can't lose.
  • 01:02:57
I want to hear it back. Ready?
  • 01:02:59
Step in, play clutch, can't lose.
  • 01:03:03
These are the three phrases I want you to walk out with today
  • 01:03:05
because I think it could define your life.
  • 01:03:08
Some of us need to step in,
  • 01:03:10
and we need to get on the field of play in our own life.
  • 01:03:14
We're just used to sitting by
  • 01:03:16
and watching it take place without us.
  • 01:03:18
Can you imagine Mahomes going like,
  • 01:03:21
    "I don't know, guys, it's only 13 seconds.
  • 01:03:25
I mean, what can I really do?"
  • 01:03:27
It's literally his job to take the field.
  • 01:03:29
And some of us have forgotten that
  • 01:03:30
we are the quarterback of our own life.
  • 01:03:32
I get a rule of thumb for you today on this one.
  • 01:03:35
If you see the window, you're the one to step into it
  • 01:03:39
because God's invitation to us in our life,
  • 01:03:42
the things He wants to do, He does show them to us.
  • 01:03:46
He does help us to sense them.
  • 01:03:48
And the key is being willing to step in.
  • 01:03:51
And some of us are on the field.
  • 01:03:53
Some of us have absolutely stepped in.
  • 01:03:54
We've been playing, but it's not going very well.
  • 01:03:56
We just keep running the same play.
  • 01:03:59
Anybody else get frustrated when their team does that?
  • 01:04:01
Let me save you a lot of time. You're going to get another yard
  • 01:04:04
and you're going to hit the big guy in the middle of the line.
  • 01:04:06
Like, same play over and over, just safe.
  • 01:04:09
We get a yard every time and, listen,
  • 01:04:11
God has provided a way for you to play clutch in these moments.
  • 01:04:16
The reason we're not is because it's literally not in us
  • 01:04:21
and God has given us something to live in us
  • 01:04:25
    that makes our life clutch.
  • 01:04:28
And it's His very own Spirit, His very own Spirit.
  • 01:04:31
God is offering you the Holy Spirit, His very own Spirit,
  • 01:04:35
to come and live within you, to dwell within you,
  • 01:04:39
    to make plays possible
  • 01:04:40
that you absolutely cannot do on your own.
  • 01:04:43
And it's possible for Him to come and live in you
  • 01:04:47
through faith in His Son Jesus.
  • 01:04:49
And this spirit, God's Spirit makes all the difference.
  • 01:04:53
    2 Timothy 1:7 says:
  • 01:05:01
And you can ask him for that spirit.
  • 01:05:04
What would happen if you faced
  • 01:05:06
the next window of opportunity He gives you,
  • 01:05:09
and this time you faced it with the power of God,
  • 01:05:13
with the love of God, with the discipline of God?
  • 01:05:16
This is what happens when we begin to
  • 01:05:18
    receive the Holy Spirit
  • 01:05:20
and actually walk with him through our life.
  • 01:05:23
If you have the spirit, you can play absolutely clutch,
  • 01:05:28
but there's still a mindset shift we need to make.
  • 01:05:31
And it's the mindset I know
  • 01:05:33
Mahomes is going to step on the field with today.
  • 01:05:35
I know he will because his stats bear it out.
  • 01:05:38
He doesn't think he can lose.
  • 01:05:40
He doesn't think he can lose.
  • 01:05:42
He's just audacious enough to believe,
  • 01:05:44
    "I'm the guy and I can't lose."
  • 01:05:47
Well, it's time for us to take on that mindset
  • 01:05:49
because for you and I, with with the Spirit of God
  • 01:05:52
in us and in our life, we literally can't lose.
  • 01:05:55
Listen to these words from Romans 8:
  • 01:06:12
The good news is that God is for us.
  • 01:06:15
He wants your life to be full,
  • 01:06:17
full of the life of His Son,
  • 01:06:18
    fruitful, powerful, meaningful.
  • 01:06:20
And the life of His Son is a life
  • 01:06:22
that even when time is running out on the clock,
  • 01:06:25
even when it looks like a loss is in front of Him,
  • 01:06:28
even when His enemy was nailing him to the Cross
  • 01:06:32
and people were leaving the stadium,
  • 01:06:34
three days later, three days later,
  • 01:06:37
His Father opened up a window of opportunity
  • 01:06:40
    and He said, "It's time."
  • 01:06:42
And in the biggest clutch move in all of human history
  • 01:06:46
Jesus stood up and walked right out of that grave.
  • 01:06:49
And it means everything to our life.
  • 01:06:51
It means that you can expect the impossible.
  • 01:06:54
It means that you can actually play clutch
  • 01:06:56
even when the clock is winding down to zero.
  • 01:06:59
There is nothing that will stop Him
  • 01:07:01
from coming through clutch for you in the end.
  • 01:07:04
    You literally cannot lose.
  • 01:07:07
So Jesus says to you today, "It's time, it's time,
  • 01:07:10
it's time to give Me your life.
  • 01:07:12
It's time to walk with My Spirit.
  • 01:07:13
It's time to use all the gifts that I've given you.
  • 01:07:16
It's time to live fully alive."
  • 01:07:18
So today is a good day.
  • 01:07:20
It's a good day to do whatever Jesus says it's time for.
  • 01:07:23
And you are going to step in, play clutch, can't lose.
  • 01:07:31
    - [whistle] Touchdown, Raging Sandwiches.
  • 01:07:38
Alli, you're awarded 6 points for a great message,
  • 01:07:40
3 points for the excellent use of Pookie the Hedgehog here.
  • 01:07:43
    - Thank you.
  • 01:07:44
    - Thank you for not celebrating like Kyle
  • 01:07:46
and throwing her out in the audience.
  • 01:07:48
    - Oh, my gosh. He has thrown a lot of things
  • 01:07:49
into the crowd today, hasn't he?
  • 01:07:51
    - All right, so for your extra point, the question,
  • 01:07:54
within 10%, what percentage of people polled
  • 01:07:56
at the Super Bowl of Preaching when brushing their teeth
  • 01:08:00
    keep the faucet running continuously?
  • 01:08:03
    - Oh, I hope this is low.
  • 01:08:07
Should I have faith in you people? [audience responds]
  • 01:08:10
    Oh, there's a lot of no's.
  • 01:08:14
Listen, I'd be coming in, turning off your water
  • 01:08:15
if you did that in my house. Okay.
  • 01:08:18
I'm going to go based on that 35% leave it running.
  • 01:08:24
    - It's 42%, so that is the correct answer.
  • 01:08:27
    - Come on.
  • 01:08:29
    - Wow. Resulting in an end of third quarter score.
  • 01:08:33
    Hold on. Math is hard.
  • 01:08:36
Of Raging Sandwiches 22, Fighting Camels 11.
  • 01:08:40
    - Well, there you have it.
  • 01:08:41
I'm not sure if people were honest
  • 01:08:43
about the whole water running thing.
  • 01:08:45
    Probably the most difficult object
  • 01:08:46
I've seen in the Super Bowl.
  • 01:08:48
What'd you guys think? - Come on.
  • 01:08:49
    Loved having Pookie.
  • 01:08:50
I feel like it just needs to be around forever.
  • 01:08:53
    It was amazing.
  • 01:08:54
    - You know, the ref's starting to grow on me a little bit.
  • 01:08:56
    He actually congratulated her
  • 01:08:58
for not throwing it into the audience,
  • 01:08:59
as well as told people to turn their water off.
  • 01:09:01
So he's coming around and he did his math right.
  • 01:09:04
I think we're rubbing off on him.
  • 01:09:05
This could just actually be a good game.
  • 01:09:08
    - That's exciting. Hey, listen,
  • 01:09:09
we got one more quarter for us,
  • 01:09:10
and they don't call this the Tome Dome for no reason.
  • 01:09:13
Brian Tome is coming to us right now in the fourth quarter.
  • 01:09:16
    - All right, Brian, you have the fourth quarter.
  • 01:09:19
    Your random prop...
  • 01:09:24
    Terrible Towel. [audience booing]
  • 01:09:32
    - You know, the hardest --
  • 01:09:36
You know, the hardest thing about watching
  • 01:09:37
the Super Bowl today is I really don't care about either team.
  • 01:09:41
You know Philadelphia, I grew up in Pittsburgh,
  • 01:09:44
    and we refer to Philadelphians,
  • 01:09:46
    we call them filthy delphia.
  • 01:09:47
So I don't have a lot of heart for Philadelphia.
  • 01:09:50
    The Chiefs, just like you,
  • 01:09:51
I don't want them to get three in a row for me,
  • 01:09:53
because I grew up a Pittsburgh Steeler fan.
  • 01:09:55
With the Steelers back in the 70s didn't win three in a row.
  • 01:09:57
I don't want the Chiefs to win three in a row.
  • 01:09:59
And having said that, we all have to tip our hat
  • 01:10:02
a little bit to what the Chiefs have been able to do.
  • 01:10:04
How have they been able to do that?
  • 01:10:06
The one of the ways they've done this,
  • 01:10:07
and I've talked with people I know who live in Kansas City
  • 01:10:10
and follow the the team really closely is they say
  • 01:10:13
that they've actually renounced conventional wisdom.
  • 01:10:18
When Mahomes was younger, they signed him
  • 01:10:21
to a long, long, long, long term contract.
  • 01:10:23
And they thought, "This is ridiculous.
  • 01:10:25
That's too much money, too long."
  • 01:10:27
    Now they look like geniuses.
  • 01:10:28
The Kansas City Chiefs, they never pay for
  • 01:10:32
a high priced free agent that bolsters their team.
  • 01:10:34
    They never do that.
  • 01:10:35
Of the 22 starters that are held today,
  • 01:10:38
16 they got in the draft.
  • 01:10:40
    They renounced that strategy.
  • 01:10:42
    They also renounce the playbook.
  • 01:10:46
Their biggest plays are when they don't actually have a play.
  • 01:10:49
It's when Kelsey and Mahomes hook up and connect.
  • 01:10:52
You know, this is the the path to spiritual oneness.
  • 01:10:56
This is the path to the X factor of God's presence in your life.
  • 01:10:59
This is the path to having a life where you actually win.
  • 01:11:02
It's a path that no one wants and just about no one does.
  • 01:11:06
    It's the path of renouncing.
  • 01:11:10
In the book of 1 Thessalonians 1:9, the apostle Paul,
  • 01:11:13
who wrote much of the New Testament,
  • 01:11:15
talked to people he had led to Christ,
  • 01:11:17
    came to relationship with Christ,
  • 01:11:18
and they were a church together.
  • 01:11:19
    And he says this:
  • 01:11:27
Though they had these false gods,
  • 01:11:28
these physical objects that represent their gods.
  • 01:11:31
And he said you turn from them, meaning you renounce them.
  • 01:11:35
You turn your back on them, he said,
  • 01:11:37
"I don't want to have anything to do with that anymore."
  • 01:11:40
The way you grow spiritually is by renouncing things.
  • 01:11:45
You renounce anything that God is not about.
  • 01:11:47
And very few of us want to do that,
  • 01:11:50
which is why very few of us have
  • 01:11:52
a sustainable pattern of spiritual growth,
  • 01:11:55
and the X factor of the presence of God
  • 01:11:57
where things take place in our life that we can't explain.
  • 01:12:00
This is why Jesus said in Luke 14:33, says:
  • 01:12:09
Now it's interesting here, he doesn't say,
  • 01:12:11
"If you don't do this, you can't get to heaven."
  • 01:12:13
There's plenty of people who get to heaven
  • 01:12:15
who don't renounce anything, but they're not a disciple.
  • 01:12:18
A disciple is one who's becoming like Jesus,
  • 01:12:21
a little Jesus, one who says, Your life is to be my life.
  • 01:12:26
And it's the path of renouncing.
  • 01:12:28
What's the last thing you renounced?
  • 01:12:31
What's the last thing that everyone thought was fine,
  • 01:12:33
but you knew between you and God, this is not good.
  • 01:12:36
I need, I need, I need to renounce this.
  • 01:12:39
When I was in high school,
  • 01:12:41
I came to know Christ in a personal way.
  • 01:12:42
I wasn't just going to church anymore.
  • 01:12:44
I actually came in a relationship with Him.
  • 01:12:46
And I, every night, every Friday night
  • 01:12:48
and every Saturday night, I got wasted. Every single one.
  • 01:12:51
And I realized I can't do that and follow Jesus.
  • 01:12:53
    I need to renounce that.
  • 01:12:55
So my Fridays and my Saturdays changed.
  • 01:12:58
When I left Pittsburgh to come to Cincinnati,
  • 01:13:01
you might be shocked to hear this,
  • 01:13:02
I actually renounced the Pittsburgh Steelers.
  • 01:13:06
    I did. [applause]
  • 01:13:08
It's because when I came to Cincinnati,
  • 01:13:11
I felt called to be in Cincinnati
  • 01:13:13
for the rest of my life.
  • 01:13:14
I was at that time 30 years old.
  • 01:13:16
    And I also love football.
  • 01:13:17
So I said, if I'm going to be living there,
  • 01:13:19
I better get used to the team
  • 01:13:20
and better start to like them.
  • 01:13:21
And eventually it did come in. It does.
  • 01:13:23
    I mean, I'll tell you what's terrible.
  • 01:13:25
What's terrible is when people wave terrible flags.
  • 01:13:28
    That's horrible.
  • 01:13:30
    Hey, Renounce. Renounce, renounce.
  • 01:13:37
Terrible Towel, it's a Pittsburgh thing.
  • 01:13:38
It was fun when I was there.
  • 01:13:40
So when -- this actually experience,
  • 01:13:44
    Super Bowl of Preaching,
  • 01:13:47
you know, uh, we have to renounce comfort.
  • 01:13:50
For everybody on stage this a horrible weekend
  • 01:13:53
and week for all of our staff.
  • 01:13:56
It's like any one of us would much rather do
  • 01:13:59
    everything we normally do.
  • 01:14:01
    It's easier. It's predictable.
  • 01:14:03
    It's less wear and tear.
  • 01:14:05
But when you come to ministry, you renounce what is easy.
  • 01:14:09
Because Jesus didn't do what was easy.
  • 01:14:11
    He went to a Cross.
  • 01:14:13
What's the, I'll ask you again,
  • 01:14:14
what's the last thing that you've renounced?
  • 01:14:17
What's the last thing that you said,
  • 01:14:19
"God. I'm just -- I gotta turn my back on this."
  • 01:14:23
I was this last week down in, uh --
  • 01:14:26
I was on a retreat with a bunch of pastors
  • 01:14:29
from around from around the country,
  • 01:14:30
    and we started having conversations.
  • 01:14:32
And one of them, a friend of mine, his name is Joby Martin,
  • 01:14:35
down in Jacksonville, actually, great church, Eleven22.
  • 01:14:39
He told me about what they do when they have baptisms.
  • 01:14:42
And when we do baptisms, when I baptize somebody,
  • 01:14:44
it's pretty much always the same.
  • 01:14:46
I asked who is your Lord and Savior?
  • 01:14:47
And the person says, "Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior.
  • 01:14:49
"I baptize you in the name of
  • 01:14:51
the Father, Son, the Holy Spirit."
  • 01:14:52
Take them down. It's really good.
  • 01:14:53
I'm not talking about infant baptism,
  • 01:14:55
    which is a different thing.
  • 01:14:56
I'm talking about when somebody actually
  • 01:14:57
gives their life to Christ and says,
  • 01:14:59
"I need to make this statement that I am dying to my sin.
  • 01:15:01
I'm dying to myself in that water."
  • 01:15:04
Another way to say it is, "I'm renouncing my previous life."
  • 01:15:09
So what Joby does, and I found out that
  • 01:15:11
this is very common in the first century,
  • 01:15:14
second century, third century is before that question is asked,
  • 01:15:17
    there's a question of renouncing that's asked.
  • 01:15:20
    Do you renounce?
  • 01:15:23
I started doing research on this and found that
  • 01:15:24
the Anglicans, it's an Ancient Book of Common Prayer.
  • 01:15:28
These are questions that would be asked somebody
  • 01:15:30
before they're actually asked the baptism question.
  • 01:15:33
Here it is: "Question, do you renounce the devil
  • 01:15:36
and all the spiritual forces of wickedness
  • 01:15:39
that rebel against God?" "I renounce them."
  • 01:15:43
"Do you renounce the empty promises
  • 01:15:45
and deadly deceits of this world
  • 01:15:47
that corrupt and destroy the creatures of God?"
  • 01:15:51
    I renounce them."
  • 01:15:52
"Do you renounce the sinful desires of the flesh
  • 01:15:56
that draw you from the love of God?"
  • 01:15:59
    "I renounce them."
  • 01:16:01
And then the question is, "Who is your Lord and Savior?"
  • 01:16:04
    "Jesus Christ."
  • 01:16:06
    But different, isn't it? Renouncing.
  • 01:16:09
Renouncing isn't just the way we come to know Christ.
  • 01:16:11
Renouncing is the way you grow in Christ.
  • 01:16:14
Next week we start a new series.
  • 01:16:16
    I'm pretty excited about it.
  • 01:16:17
It's something that all of us are in love with,
  • 01:16:21
    our phones, our screens.
  • 01:16:25
I can't stand when my phone gives me a little notification.:
  • 01:16:28
Would you like your weekly screen time report?
  • 01:16:30
No, no, I don't. Get off. No, no, no.
  • 01:16:34
Horrified by seeing how much time I spend on my phone.
  • 01:16:38
Which is exactly why I need a season of renouncing my phone.
  • 01:16:42
I need a season of fasting and deciding
  • 01:16:46
these apps, these things I'm not going to do.
  • 01:16:49
We're going to talk for the next few weeks
  • 01:16:50
about what is the role of technology in our faith,
  • 01:16:53
and what we're building to is in a few weeks, a few weeks,
  • 01:16:56
we're going to start a digital fast
  • 01:16:58
that you will choose to do whatever form you want,
  • 01:17:02
    whatever, whatever form you want.
  • 01:17:04
    [applause] Yeah, yeah, okay.
  • 01:17:05
We're all clapping right now until it comes time to do it,
  • 01:17:09
because very few of us will ever do it,
  • 01:17:11
because very few of us ever renounce anything.
  • 01:17:14
We just want to add Jesus to our life.
  • 01:17:17
Many people, when we get baptized, we just say,
  • 01:17:19
"I just want -- I'm just asking God
  • 01:17:21
to just do something that's nice and just just want,
  • 01:17:24
I want a good spiritual moment."
  • 01:17:26
And and that's really too bad because
  • 01:17:29
that's not the life God blesses.
  • 01:17:32
The life God blesses is the life that's patterned after his Son.
  • 01:17:36
    And Jesus renounced.
  • 01:17:38
He was in heaven, and He renounced all the comforts
  • 01:17:41
and perks in heaven, and He came to earth,
  • 01:17:45
and He had a difficult life that ended in a horrible death
  • 01:17:48
because He renounced His comfort, He renounced it,
  • 01:17:51
and He went to a Cross and died on a Cross for my sin,
  • 01:17:55
    for your sins,
  • 01:17:56
so that we wouldn't have to pay for our own sins.
  • 01:17:58
    It's amazing what He's done.
  • 01:18:00
And now he invites you and I into that life,
  • 01:18:03
that life of greatness and purposefulness,
  • 01:18:06
where we do feel bonded with God,
  • 01:18:08
where there is an X factor to our life,
  • 01:18:10
and there is the turning away
  • 01:18:12
and the turning of our back on idols,
  • 01:18:14
    including the idol of comfort
  • 01:18:16
and idle time and all of those things.
  • 01:18:19
That's what I need for me, and I know
  • 01:18:21
it's what God wants for you.
  • 01:18:24
Right now you can pray if you like.
  • 01:18:27
    That's actually you can.
  • 01:18:28
Let's end this right now in a word of prayer.
  • 01:18:31
God, I'm thankful for giving us time to laugh
  • 01:18:35
and time to grow, time to sing, and time to also reflect.
  • 01:18:40
And Lord, I'm asking that when we leave here today,
  • 01:18:42
whatever site we're in, wherever we are in the country,
  • 01:18:45
that something different would happen in our life.
  • 01:18:47
What happens is a level of renouncing.
  • 01:18:49
And some of us, God, know enough right now
  • 01:18:50
    we want to renounce.
  • 01:18:51
There's something we know we need to renounce.
  • 01:18:53
We want to say I renounce and I'm going to
  • 01:18:55
give you the opportunity right now.
  • 01:18:57
You can say it. Just mutter it under your breath.
  • 01:18:59
    God, I renounce...
  • 01:19:04
Not hearing any murmurs. Let's try it again.
  • 01:19:06
    God I renounce...
  • 01:19:10
And God we don't just renounce, we want to receive.
  • 01:19:13
    So, Jesus, we want You.
  • 01:19:14
We want You to have a bigger role in our life.
  • 01:19:16
And for some of us, for the very first time,
  • 01:19:18
we want to say, "Jesus, come into my life.
  • 01:19:20
I want to give it to You and I want to walk with You.
  • 01:19:24
We pray these things in the name of Jesus. Amen.
  • 01:19:29
    - [whistle] Touchdown, Fighting Camels! [cheers]
  • 01:19:35
    - Brian, you're awarded 6 points for a great message,
  • 01:19:37
3 points for the excellent use of the prop.
  • 01:19:40
And, you know, you just worked it in so beautifully.
  • 01:19:43
And you've got the people's pastor on your team.
  • 01:19:47
    - I do, I do that. Yeah.
  • 01:19:48
    - You line my pockets with green.
  • 01:19:50
I think green might be my new favorite color,
  • 01:19:52
so that's worth at least 2 extra points.
  • 01:19:55
So now for a tied game, this is the tie breaker question.
  • 01:19:59
And the question, within 10%, what percentage of people
  • 01:20:03
polled at the Super Bowl of preaching have used a bidet?
  • 01:20:13
    - What are you thinking? - Uh.
  • 01:20:17
My first time it time was only, the first a few years ago,
  • 01:20:19
so I'm not, uh. It's awesome, by the way.
  • 01:20:23
    - Do you think it's 8 or 15? Capture down to 5?
  • 01:20:26
    - Do you think it's low? I think it is too.
  • 01:20:28
    I'll go with that. 30%.
  • 01:20:31
    - It is 30%. - Whoa!
  • 01:20:34
    - The Super Bowl of Preaching winners.
  • 01:20:38
    - Come on! Hahahahaha. Oh geez, every time.
  • 01:20:45
[music: We Are the Champions, Queen]
  • 01:20:51
    - Yeah. Uh, I'm not sure about the scoring system
  • 01:20:54
    that we have going on.
  • 01:20:57
    - Look at it this way. - Unbelievable.
  • 01:20:59
    - I don't have to beat you in Rock, Paper, Scissors again.
  • 01:21:01
    - I know that's true. I've lost three in a row.
  • 01:21:03
    - That was horrible. - Unbelievable.
  • 01:21:05
Hey, we hope you had a great time today.
  • 01:21:07
Did you? Was it fun? [cheers]
  • 01:21:10
    - Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
  • 01:21:12
Hey, listen, if a friend invited you here today,
  • 01:21:16
I want to invite you back next week.
  • 01:21:18
We exist for people who don't know what they think
  • 01:21:20
about God to come into a relationship with Him,
  • 01:21:23
to meet Him, to try Him out.
  • 01:21:25
Come do that digital fast that Brian talked about with us.
  • 01:21:27
That will push you closer to Him.
  • 01:21:29
For more on that service times,
  • 01:21:31
we're going back to our sites.
  • 01:21:34
    - Hey, thank you so much for joining us
  • 01:21:36
for the Super Bowl of Preaching craziness.
  • 01:21:38
We're so glad you joined us.
  • 01:21:39
Now, just as a reminder, we'd love to see you
  • 01:21:41
    not watch something,
  • 01:21:42
but get connected to a group of community.
  • 01:21:45
You can just do that simply by texting
  • 01:21:47
Anywhere to 301301, and we'll follow up.
  • 01:21:50
And secondly, we'd love to see you back here next week
  • 01:21:53
as we kick off our digital reset
  • 01:21:55
through our new series called Unplugged.
  • 01:21:57
    We'll see you next week.

Process, journal or discuss the themes of this article - here's a few questions to get the ball rolling...

Welcome to the Weekend-Follow Up!

This is content that reflects on the Weekend message and how it can apply to your life. Each week, your group will discover what God might be saying to you, and how you can respond through a group discussion.

  1. What is your favorite Super Bowl snack? Is there one that you think is overrated?

  2. What stood out to you most from the message?

  3. Why do you think that stood out to you? What do you think God might be trying to say? (It’s ok if you’re just guessing. This will give you some space to process what it might be.)

  4. What did the message tell you about God?

  5. What did the message tell you about people?

  6. What is one way you can respond to what God might be saying to you this week?

  7. Now share a prayer request for the week. Whoever loves taking notes can jot them down (and maybe put them in a group chat, if you have one). Make sure to go around the circle and pray for each other at the end of your meeting, and throughout the week.

  8. That’s it for this week - see you next time!
